Why Hamze from Palestine & Barak from Israel Became SNS Speakers

At the launch of our annual matched fundraiser this year - which is now live - we asked two speakers who have been speakers in UK schools this year to share their thoughts about why they volunteered, especially at such a crucial and challenging time since the awful events of October 7th 2023 in Israel, and since in Gaza and the West Bank. We've themed the campaign #PeaceBuilderVoices.

Hamze, from Palestine, and Barak, from Israel, have been into dozens of schools in Manchester & London and below they share why they think the work SNS does is valuable & more vital than ever. They reflect our values of non-violence, equality for all, and the rejection of hatred.

We are aiming to bring another 25 Israeli & Palestinian peace builders like Barak & Hamze to the UK next year, to reach at least 12,500 people - but we can only do that with your support. BARAK:

“The recent conflict has profoundly impacted life in Israel-Palestine, bringing unimaginable hardship. The tragic loss of life marks a significant shift in our realities since October 7th. As an Israeli Peacebuilder, this situation has greatly complicated our efforts toward peace. Moreover, as an Israeli, I find myself living in an increasingly hostile and dangerous environment. This reality, coupled with personal trauma and fear, presents significant challenges, especially when trying to communicate these complex issues in today's fast-paced, social media-driven world.

I believe that Solutions Not Sides is making a remarkable effort to address these intricate problems with the British youth. SNS is doing an incredible job at expanding the scope of understanding in the classrooms I've visited. Sharing my story there, I encountered a genuinely curious and empathetic response for the youth we spoke with. This experience reinforces my conviction that storytelling and dialogue are essential tools for conflict resolution and empathy building. For me, SNS does an outstanding job at delivering impactful workshops and fostering crucial skills among the youth we've engaged with during our tour.”
